Tuesday's Route

Tue. 7/31/18 – Watkins Glen to Auburn

72 or 66 miles

Today we'll ride past one of the many waterfalls in the Finger Lakes area, before we ride the ridge region between the two largest Finger Lakes. Sure the town of Ovid has eating options, but its better known for being home to The Three Bears. Ovid is also our decision point, with an optional shortcut, or the chance to ride along the shore of Cayuga Lake and perhaps do some more wine tasting.   Or maybe eat lunch on the outdoor patio at a vineyard, serving fresh ingredients sourced from local farms.

Both options bring us over a bridge to Seneca Falls, proud to be know as the Birthplace of the Women's Rights Movement, (watch for Eliz. Cady Stanton to "reappear" on Friday)  and rumored to be the inspirational setting for the movie "It's A Wonderful Life"  (which is what makes this  otherwise ordinary bridge so darn interesting).

As we cross over the top Cayuga Lake, keep an eye out for bald eagles nesting at Montezuma Wildlife area.

We'll end the day riding through beautiful rolling hills and huge cornfields before spending the night in Auburn.  If you arrive early in town, swim in yet another Finger Lake, Owasco Lake.

If you're a history buff, in Auburn explore the homes of Harriett Tubman or William SewardAuburn is awesome.  Their streets are even paved with new Harriet Tubman $20 bills - or are they?
